David L. Rainer Elementary One Read ProgramKingland, GA DLR participated in a school wide read of My Father's Dragon! Each week students and their families were asked to read assigned chapters of the book together at home. Teachers also read to students in class. Students participated in weekly kahoot quizzes where they competed against one another to answer questions. For the culminating activity we showed off art created to represent the characters, played dragon games, crossed the "river", posed for photo ops, and enjoyed being together as a school family. This program was the first of its kind at our school! Teachers, students, and parents seemed to enjoy participating in this one read together as a team. We have already purchased two more books for next year! All families in our school (382) each received their very own copy of the book as well as each teacher and staff member! *I am only able to upload one photo :/

Enhancing Youth Well-being through Accessible Mental Health SupportSan Mateo County We are deeply grateful for the McDonald's Golden Grant Award, which has been essential in enhancing our One Life’s After School Wellness Program. This grant has allowed us to expand Therapist Hours by providing additional hours for therapists so more students can receive individualized counseling and group therapy sessions. Additionally include a Peer Counselor to connect students and families to essential services like food, clothing, and other community resources. Thank you for helping us make a significant impact on the mental health and well-being of our youth.

Food for People - Backpacks for KidsEureka, CA Thanks to the funding we received from Golden Grants, we are able to continue to provide food to children experiencing hunger through our Backpacks for Kids program. Food for People is the food bank for Humboldt County, CA, where 60% of students qualify for free or reduced lunches. In our most rural school districts as many as 90% of students qualify. The Backpacks for Kids program was designed to combat the consequences of weekend hunger for the most vulnerable children in our county. The program provides a bag full of nutritious, kid-friendly food every Friday of the school year for children at risk for weekend hunger. Every child enrolled in the Backpacks program lives in a household with an income below the federal poverty level. Some kids have shared that the food that they get on Fridays is the difference between whether or not they will face a long, hunger-filled weekend. Teachers tell us they see an improvement in how kids feel on Mondays and note better attendance, ability to concentrate, and improved behavior among the children receiving the backpacks. In our annual surveys of children and families in the program, parents say that having the extra food reduces stress for all members of the family, when kids and parents aren't living with the uncertainty of where food will be coming from.

Science Enrichment ClassLawrenceville I have used the McDonald's Golden Grant to acquire more hands-on equipment that my student are able to enjoy. The picture shows a box that is used to build molecular models. This particular example takes place with one of the 8th grade classes. There are ten tables in my room with four students on each. Each one of the tables is able to get their own box. In a similar way, I was able to acquire other products to do different experiments and projects for all the classes I teach (6th-8th). I get two classes per grade level each semester, which means this grant is able to impact an average of 420 students per year. I rewarded my students with the box of goodies provided and even had students from other classes asking me for the Happy Meal stickers. I am very thankful to McDonald's Golden Grants because my class has seen a clear benefit from it.
